Our clinic has been serving the Ankeny community since 1987, providing an array of comprehensive and diagnostic services. Our team of eyecare professionals has continued to stay current with the latest findings and advancements, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.

Meet the Doctors
Optometrists are doctors that are specially trained to treat and diagnose refractive and pathological findings of the human eye.
Optometrist and Practice Owner
Dr. James Schroder
Dr. Schroder grew up in Waukee, Iowa. He majored in Biology at the University of Northern Iowa before heading to Oregon to attend Pacific College of Optometry, graduating in 2004.
Dr. Schroder has been in the same Ankeny location going on 18 years, working with Eyecare of Ankeny's founder, Dr. Gregg Sunner, before taking over the practice in 2015. He works with patients of all ages. He is certified in InfantSEE (free exams for infants 6-12 months old), but has a passion for medical optometry and challenging patient concerns.
Outside of work, Dr. Schroder enjoys spending time with his wife, Sue and kids Morgan, Olivia, Liam, and Karlie and the family pet Milly, a white lab.
Associate Optometrist
Dr. Jordan Ukena
Dr. Ukena grew up in rural NW Iowa. She studied biology and psychology at Simpson College in Indianola before heading to Memphis, Tennessee to attend Southern College of Optometry.
Dr. Ukena enjoys working with patients of all ages. She is certified in MiSight Myopia Control contact lens fitting, InfantSee exams for children under 12mo, and enjoys fitting reading glasses for those with reduced vision. Dr. Ukena also has a passion for clean, healthy products to recommend for her patients for eyelid hygiene and cosmetic purposes.
Outside of work, Dr. Ukena enjoys spending time with her husband, Matthew, their twin baby boys, Bryson and Rylan, and their two rescue dogs, Riley and Ryder.

Manager
Janae is our lead office manager. She helps to keep the entire team organized and focused on patient care.
Outside of work, Janae enjoys traveling with her husband and going to Michigan football games.
Assistant Manager
Lindsey is our assistant office manager. She helps to keep the entire team organized and focused on patient care.
Outside of work, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Mya and Millie.
Technician
Sarah works with our technician team to assist the doctors with pre-testing, imaging and any referrals or consult appointments.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with loved ones, watching scary movies, and baking with her significant other, Adam.

Taylor works with our technician team to assist the doctors with pre-testing, imaging and any referrals or consult appointments.
Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with her friends and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.

Peyton works with our technician team to assist the doctors with pre-testing, imaging and any referrals or consult appointments.
Outside of work, Peyton enjoys going racing with her husband and spending time with their dog Bristol.

Jen works with our optical team to help with picking out the perfect frames, ordering lenses, and making any glasses adjustments or repairs.
Outside of work, Jen enjoys cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with her two yorkies, Max and Jax.

Kylee works with our optical team to help with picking out the perfect frames, ordering lenses, and making any glasses adjustments or repairs.
Outside of work, Kylee enjoys watching football, hockey and racing. She loves spending time with her family and their two cats.
